Audition Foundation/Skin Faves

Hi y’all!

We all know that feeling of the checklist we go through when we get a self-tape: Who is available to be my reader? Zoom or in-person? When do I have time to study? Can I do this early/later so I have my makeup already done? Take one step out of it and have your audition staples that will serve you for every audition, so that you look great and feel great to do your best work and focus on the story.

Look no further: as a working actress and professional makeup artist working with actors on the daily, these are products I love and stand behind for myself and for clients. These are all products I have either used on clients or myself.

My philosophy, especially when it comes to real life and auditions: You want your skin to look like skin. I never like the skin flat, super matte, or without a glow. Skin naturally has a sheen and isn’t lack-luster. All of these products bring the life back into skin. Cameras pick up everything now, so the less the better and all of these mimic skin and are super buildable.

Makeup Forever HD Foundation Stick

I loooove this foundation! My holy grail. right now. I use it on myself for auditions and it’s the #1 in my kit for clients. It gives beautiful coverage, is buildable, flawless, looks incredible on camera for self tapes and photography and in person. Medium to full buildable co average. I turned my mom and sister on to it, it’s just stunning. I prefer to use a moisturized buffing brush over a beauty blender to blend it out, my general trick with foundation sticks. You’ll read more what I like to prep and set it with. Great with or without a powder. Great for all ages, skin types and textures.

Hourglass Vanish Foundation Stick

If cruelty free is a major priority for you, the is the foundation stick for you. It’s smooth, velvety and very similar in medium buildable coverage for on-camera and in-person. This is great for everyday and auditions. So flawless and smooth. I find sticks to work best with a hydrated foundation brush. Great with or without a powder. Great for all ages, skin types and textures.

IT! Cosmetics CC Cream

This is a great option if you want a daytime and audition foundation. Feels lighweight, similar to a tinted moisturizer mixed with foundation and gives excellent buildable coverage. Great for those who suffer with rosacea, that feels lightweight. It also has SPF ( I never ran into issues with on-camera) and it comes in a beautiful luminous finish and an oil controlling, mattiifying formula. I would suggest setting this with a powder.

Georgio Armani Luminous Silk Liquid Foundation

This is a gorgeous, lightweight, medium-buiildable liquid foundation. Great for those needing lightweight coverage. It has a very natural, luminous finish and great with or without a powder. This is definitely a treat foundation. I LOOOVE how this foundation makes my skin look. Hydrated, pearly, glory and perfect for auditions and important agent/manager meetings. Looks like your own skin. Cannot recommend it enough.

Georgio Armani Power Fabric

This is the big sister to Luminous Silk. For those needing more coverage and prefer a fuller coverage, natural matte finish, this is the best option for you. Gorgeous, silky, and so luxurious and comfortable on them skin.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Vanish Corrector

I love the natural coverage and color correction of this concealer. I love how lightweight the formula is with medium coverage. Great for those with a distinctly purple/blue under eye that needs to be corrected (like me, but you’d never know it with this stuff!!). Great to apply before your foundation to color correct and then apply whatever foundation you need for desired coverage. I also like to set this with the hourglass powders I’m about to discuss.

Charlot Tilbury Hollywood Filter

Y’ALL. Okay. This is a game changer. It’s not a foundation, it’s like a slip to wear under foundation to reduce the amount of foundation you need that gives your skin a luminous finish. You can always use it as a highlighter, but I feel prepping skin with this gives the prettiest result. It comes with a doe-foot applicator and I like to limit this ultra glow product to the high points of my cheek bones and bridge of the nose. Use this to keep your skin looking hydrated, full, radiant and lit from within. Great addition to any makeup bag. I would avoid the center of the forehead and chin, especially for auditions. When I’m just running around town, I use the CT Color corrector and this for an all overflow on the high points of my face and my skin looks radiant. Pop on a blush and man do I feel great! Must have for auditions and real life!!

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Powder

This powder is a great little veil for those who are oily to combination, that want a silky mattifying effect to the skin. Great for setting and touch ups. Doesn’t look cakey or flat. Great for use right in the center of the face. Set with a little face spray!

Hourglass Ambient Powder Palette

I AM OBSESSED WITH THESE POWDERS. The palette is great for those who have multi-tonal skin and who want to build a bit of a bronzer/sculpted effect into the skin. The powder is literally like a filter, and gives the most perfect low-level, matte-pearl finish. I use it on all my clients for their headshots, on-set for short films and demo reels and myself. Absolutely in love. 10/10 must have.

Hourglass Ambient Powder

Obsessed. See above. This is the large single version of the powder, great for setting, touchups, you name it. I love the super light to highlight my under eyes. Great for all over the face, t-zone to cheek bones, décolletage for an extra glow. Just divine. You must have this. Gorgeous on-camera, it has the, “did she just get a facial?” effect. So good.

Hourglass Ambient Powder Mini

Same as above j just in a mini, compact size!

NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder

Transparent light setting powder that gives the skin a natural-matte finish with luminosity if that makes sense. Light, perfecting for on-camera and every day. Doesn’t kill the foundation finish.
